  • use CAR or STAR technique
  • an interview is a way to discover more about the role and showcase your skills, interviews works both ways, ask questions!- get to know what you’re going for.
  • Multiple ways to interview- online tests, phone, in person, video, panel, group
  • phone interview- know how to answer the phone politely.- always answer the phone.- first impression counts- be mindful the employer can ring u
  • video call- become more useful doing covid. still continue after covid
  • panel- face to face or video- more than one interviewer- top tip: interviewers are just as nervous as you.
  • group- becoming more popular- discover how you behave in certain situations- are you a team player- how you interact and problem solve
  • Always be nice to a receptionist!- people ask for their opinions

top tips for online interviews-

  • educate yourself, educate yourself on the company- keep a pen and paper for imp info
  • ensure equipment is working- strong wifi connection too- cam is working
  • environment is imp- no notification during- no distractions- no clutter- bright organised- this reflects you- dress appropriately- be a serious candidate
  • body language is imp
  • web cam- look at camera not screen- good posture- smile and chat – first digital impression of you

In groups top tips

  • know your cv and portfolio- have it in front of you too- be familiar with what you’ve written- personal statement- important to learn what you have listed as skills- give examples of this- pick apart cv to know what to say about each part of you on the cv
  • good connection- quiet
  • no pets- make sure they quiet
  • hide away bits- as much blank space behind you as possible
  • dress nice
  • don’t get distractions
  • know about the company- research the website- make notes- first question, tell me about the company?- be able to tell them about what’s on their website- show you want that
  • practise some answers- know what you want to say- questions are gonna be about you- know yourself.
  • skills- why are you applying for this course- prepare answers.
  • get dad to ask questions about myself- more rehearsals you have the more comfortable your going to be with it
  • mock interviews!
  • check the place the interview to know where to go.- for uni too- ring up and ask if you done know- extra steps to get it right.
  • social platforms- how you present yourself to social media- Facebook and instagram is a popular platform to search on
  • linked in- keep it up to date- more and more students on here for internships- interact with companies- work experience!- can use this for an interview
  • can have a secondary account to show who you want the interviewer to see- one personal- one professional.
  • body lang is important- nod- show your listening- sit up
  • may be asked to bring stuff- drivers license- cv- make sure you know exactly what you need for that day- screen sharing can be useful- portfolio website- don’t just talk about work- pull it up- show them- practise presenting your work.
  • practise every aspect of the interview
  • arrive on time- be ready to join
  • communication- speak clearly- slowly and concisely- take your time and speak up
  • practice speaking speed- can be a little nervous but speak slow- take deep breaths
  • maintain eye contact.

  • what are you good at- give examples- don’t just boast be clear on who you are
  • give an example of when you worked in a team- was it successful
  • give an example of when you were successful

C– stressed before driving

A– watched YouTube tutorials, made flashcards and used driving theory app

R– became more confident at driving

CAR- circumstance, action, reaction

STAR- situation, task, action, result

Reflection

write down questions you were asked- how to answer different- help for future interviews- can ask for why you didn’t get the job

can write stuff down in interview if you want.- can take in notepad and pen

www- what went well. www- what went wrong

can ask them to rephrase the sentence- if you don’t understand- shows employer you really want the job
