In doing the course of creative media in Gower college, I have found that I have creative abilities that I would never have anticipated. I have always had a keen interest in film and TV as I found it to be a form of escapism, that allows your imagination to grow. However, within this I found that I gravitated towards watching certain genres which, sometimes controlled my creative abilities as I had little experience outside of my comfort zone. Moreover, within the course, I believe I have been able expand this by researching into different genres for my work. This has led me into my recent fascination with action films rather than my usual genre of romantic comedies.
From my portfolio website, my show reel and my CV’s; I hope to highlight all aspects of my growing creative abilities, to present my capabilities for the future. As a career I would love to work in the field of creative media or a similar industry. Currently, I have a keen interest in becoming a film editor or a graphic designer. These may seem vastly different careers, but both are something I would equally feel comfortable exploring. Firstly, I chose film editing as I had a keen interest in being involved in the filming process, however, I considered that I wouldn’t like to be a part of the filming crew, so I was more interested in researching behind the camera roles which led to film editing. Furthermore, I chose graphic design as my other route, as I have always had a curiosity for art and seeing how other artist interpret the same situation. From Van Gogh to Sophie Cunningham, they both portray the way we view the world in completely different ways. So, from this I liked the idea of venturing out into graphic design and being representative of a brand by, creating the visuals to help viewers see the real brand.
Currently, I have been lucky enough to build my own small business of custom illustrations. This business has allowed me to explore new ways of sharing my abilities with others, by accepting commissions from supporters of my brand. Due to this I have also been able to secure a small income that allowed me to save up for a new laptop which, helped me create more work on the adobe software.
Outside of college, I have been able to pursue many hobbies. Most recently I have had a fascination with up-cycling clothing and other various pieces of fabric. This for me includes, gathering clothing or material that is no longer wanted from family, friends and myself, to then up-cycle into something more unique or in line with my fashion preferences. This has most recently included a dress made from a bed sheet, morphing two pairs of jeans that were too small into one pair of shorts and jeans made into a tote bag. In doing this, I have been able to teach myself how to fully operate a sewing machine and other essential pieces of equipment. For this, I also search for items of clothing in charity shops, as I love the idea of using a piece of clothing someone once loved and, turning it into something I can love.
